Bellingham Severe Weather Shelter - Whatcom County Health and Community Services

Shelter will open when severe cold weather forecasts meet opening criteria. When activated, the shelter will be open from 4:00 PM to 9:00 AM, with check-in from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and lights out from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The space can hold approximately 60 people, with limited storage space for personal belongings. Service, emotional support, and therapy animals are welcome.

Flood Emergency Shelter - Sulwhanon (Mi’sq’eq’o) Community Building

Temporary shelter available for residents displaced by December 2025 flooding. Pets are allowed as part of the shelter admittance but are crated outside. Whatcom Ready can assist with more kennel resources as needed. Operated by the Red Cross.

The City of Bellingham is partners with local organizations to provide free fans and air filters to people with mobility limitations who are vulnerable to the negative health effects of extreme heat and poor air quality due to wildfire smoke.
