Students who qualify for Special Education services are enrolled and served as they turn 3 years of age. A free, early entrance kindergarten experience for children who are scheduled to enter kindergarten the following year. To be eligible, children must turn four by August 31; demonstrate academic, language, or social need; and cannot be currently enrolled in another early learning program.

Childcare and early learning programming available at the Laurel Forest Early Learning Center in downtown Bellingham for children between the ages 18 months and 5 years. This inclusive preschool childcare program serves all children, including those with disabilities, and can coordinate with school district services to support a child’s special education and healthcare needs. Childcare available from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm for working families.

Program for children ages 3-5 who are potty-trained. Children spend time connecting with and learning about our local natural environment as well as getting used to group dynamics and following instructions.

Integrated preschool classrooms that serve preschool children with developmental delays as well as their typically developing peers. A limited number of tuition-based openings are available for students who do not qualify for Special Education services.

A free transitional kindergarten for students who are not in an early learning program and are scheduled to begin kindergarten the following school year. The district must prioritize families with the lowest incomes and children most in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten. Students must be 4 years old prior to August 31 to be eligible for the current school year.

A free, full-day early entrance kindergarten experience for children who are scheduled to enter kindergarten the following year. In order to be eligible, students must demonstrate academic, language or social need and cannot be currently enrolled in another early learning program. Eligible students must also turn four before September 1.

A public preschool program that includes Head Start, Co-Op Preschool, and Child Find Screenings.

A comprehensive preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 from income eligible families. This program provides children and families with information and access to child health and development, nutrition, behavioral health, family goal setting and resources.

Free school-day preschool program (6.5 hours) in 9 locations throughout Whatcom County for income eligible families with children between the ages of 3 and 5. This inclusive preschool program serves all children, including those with disabilities, and can coordinate with school district services to support a child’s special education and healthcare needs. Families enrolled in the program have access to the full range of Opportunity Council community resources including case management, parent and employment education opportunities, and more.

Free part-day preschool program in the Ferndale area for income eligible families with children between the ages of 3 and 5. The half day program offers morning and afternoon options. This inclusive preschool program serves all children, including those with disabilities, and can coordinate with school district services to support a child’s special education and healthcare needs. Families enrolled in the program have access to the full range of Opportunity Council community resources including case management, parent and employment education opportunities, and more.

Developmentally appropriate opportunities for three and four year olds who have been identified as having developmental delays and/or disabilities. Children learn and practice skills in all areas through large and small group participation, activity centers, and child-directed play.

A free, full day, five days a week, transitional kindergarten program for children who are at least 4-years old by August 31st. Students must reside within Lynden Schools enrollment boundaries and enter based on need and/or ability such as financial, academic and social-emotional needs, and cannot be currently enrolled in another early learning program.

The preschool program provides a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages 3 - 5 years old. The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is a state-funded, free preschool program for qualifying children and families.
