The Housing Choice Voucher program (Section 8) is a rent subsidy program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by the Bellingham Housing Authority (BHA). This voucher based program is designed to assist lower income families, disabled individuals, and the elderly to find well-maintained housing in the private market in a location of their choosing, at a price they can afford.

Services include Low Rent Program, programs leading to eventual homeownership, and waiting list of Tribal members in need of affordable housing. Nooksack Housing also helps Tribal members connect with other state and federal housing services, including the Section 184 Home Loan Program, Down Payment Assistance, as well as other administrative assistance.

A unique opportunity for hardworking families to help build and buy their own homes. Eligibility based on length of Whatcom residency, income, current housing status, ability to make timely monthly mortgage payments, and background check.
Provides assistance to help low-income households build their own homes. Apply online to be added to the waitlist (currently about 3.5 years wait time).
Apartments designated for individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system and are otherwise homeless in Whatcom County. Referrals to this program are made through the Whatcom County Coordinated Entry program managed by Opportunity Council.
