Whatcom Clubhouse is a nonclinical social rehabilitation approach to address mental illness and is considered a ‘Peer Run and Support Program’. Any adult Whatcom County resident with a mental health diagnosis can apply for a free membership, which allows participating in structured, social daily activities at the Clubhouse location.

Max Higbee Center members are paired with a Community Engagement provider to receive one-on-one support to introduce community resources and create lasting relationships, develop goals and strategies, and learn skills that will facilitate integration into the community. This program is contracted through DDA and must be approved by your case manager prior to program start.

Max Higbee Center members are paired with a Recreation Leader to receive one-on-one support to create an individualized, goal-oriented and community-based recreation experience. This service is highly flexible and allows for people to schedule sessions that are tailored and designed based on short-term and long-term goals.

4-week summer day program for elementary school-age children who have experienced difficult life circumstances and exhibit emotional and behavioral issues as a result. Camp includes outdoor recreational and physical fitness-related activities, music and arts enrichment, daily off-site field trips, and small group conversations that encourage and support positive coping skills and self-management.
Members engage in a variety of activities and community excursions. Programs include YMCA workouts, cooking classes, hikes, sports, library visits, art projects and much more. Alternative activities are always provided.

A free Parents’ Day Out/respite program where kids with all types of special needs have fun while their caregivers get a break. Participants and their siblings have opportunities to make new friends, play games, do crafts, hear children’s stories, enjoy music, and more, while their parents get a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities. Child Care Aware can help you find out if you quailify for financial assistance, navigate the state subsidy system, get a list of referrals for providers and connect you with other services. Subsidies are availabe for families who have low incomes, do seasonal work, have special needs or situations, are full-time college students, and more.
